Care for Value
For some people Tweeting on personal level is fun but that’s as far as it goes. You need to provide value to your followers and potential followers. You can throw in personal “tweets” and have some fun with it. Providing with them useful information, insights, entertainment, education, news and more will ensure that they will keep following you.
Be Chatty and Communicative
Talk topics that will interest others. When you reply to someone and have them reply to you, your Twitter ID appears in the feeds of others which expose you to thousands of other Twitters users. Perhaps, asking questions is the best way to get a conversation on Twitter. You also need to participate as well in other people’s Tweets. Respond to their questions and interests.
Provide Other Profiles
If have an existing online profile on any social networks, you can use it to start something out into Twitter. For blogs, you can mention that you’re using Twitter in a post and link to it from your profile and contact pages. On Facebook use any of the tools available to drag in your Tweets to Facebook. You can also add it to your email sig, business card. The same applies with any online/offline presence that you have – link to your Twitter page and link to it as much as you can.
Tweet Often -Creating Space for Reactions
Your active presence on Twitter, will be noticed and it will be easier for people to find and add you as someone that they are following. There is a risk of losing followers when you don’t Tweet often. Try to stick to one topic at a time and pause to let others interact. Respond always.
Tweet During Peak Times
This depends on what part of the world you’re at… If you’re in the US track the times when there are lots of Tweeters online. Tweeting during the peak times is the best time to do it, it increases the chances of someone finding you and adding you as someone to follow.
